Moonshiner is a concept for a gin brand.

 

The brand identity revolves strongly around alchemist aesthetic codes and moon imagery. Alchemists have long been involved with gin’s history: juniper has been used by physicians and alchemists since ancient times for its many beneficial properties. And gin, made from juniper berries, originated as a medicinal liquor made by monks and alchemists across Europe.

 

The design of the Moonshiner bottle reflects this medicinal history. And in true alchemist fashion - the bottle hides a secret among the engraved symbols: the very recipe, step by step, of the Moonshiner gin.

 

In alchemy, the moon was considered as one of the seven classical planets. Alchemists believed that particular astrological alignments translated to powerful and optimal conditions for their laboratory experiments.

 

Throughout history, the production of gin and other spirits were prohibited so distillers had to make them clandestinely. They worked by moonlight to hide the smoke that was given off during the production process. “Moonshine” was the name given to these secretive spirits.
